After another poor election showing, what comes next for ADPD? It’s been three weeks now since Malta voted in the European Parliament and the local council elections. The dust has now settled and much analysis has been made. There has been due focus... Comments (3) Share latest comment from Carmel J. Vella, 30/06/2024 09:24: "In the meantime, 100,000 people or so opted not to vote" In my humble opinion that number was the result of the surveys. Those who usually support the PN gave up hope of making any difference should they submit their vote. While Labour supporters took the result form the surveys for granted. I know people from both sides who decided they way. New Comment Reply Click to rate 0 0

The 1981 election and the transition from Mintoff to KMB You were President of the Labour Party in the mid-1980s. It was a tough time for Malta. The MLP had won more seats in Parliament without having obtained the majority of votes in the 1981 election. How... Comments (1) Share latest comment from Bertrand Russell, 30/06/2024 07:35: The 1981 electoral result may have been in line with letter of the constitution but it most certainly was not in line with the spirit of it or indeed basic democratic principles. Additionally, it was not a "perverse" or "accidental" result. It was the result of deliberate gerrymandering, as was pointed out by all and sundry before, during and after. In fact, all the opposition representatives on the Electoral Commission made it a point to mention it and refused to sign off on the district map. Also, the violence he refers to was coming entirely from one side, and the victims entirely from the other. We always knew it was going to happen in advance. Mintoff would make a speech, or later KMB, and we would brace ourselves for the inevitable, where that same day or the following there would be the violent consequences by their supporters. Never the other way round. Sant's perspective may be interesting, but it should be seen, described, and headlined as exactly what it is, the insider view of a criminal organisation's history. Nothing more. Accepting his words as fact do a disservice to history and a disservice to journalism. New Comment Reply Click to rate 0 0

There have been multiple deaths on this site over recent years and in very similar circumstances. Unless there were clear safety signs and possibly cordons in the area is this a case of negligence? If you’re expecting trouble, and multiple recent deaths in similar circumstances seem to indicate that, the responsible authority surely needed to take action? New Comment Reply Click to rate 0 0
