Aside from the practical considerations related to wiping of backsides with unilateral declarations of neutrality, neutrality in the face of evil is a also a moral failing, and without any guaranteed outcome, as evil cannot be trusted. This of course, aside from the fact that our neutrality was simply a face saving device in exchange for enshrining the principle of majority rule in our constitution. A principle so basic that it should not need to be enshrined anywhere. However in the face of deliberate gerrymandering by the human rights abusing, corruption enabling authoritarian Labour Party led by Mintoff in 1981 resulting in a pre-planned "perverse result' it had to be so enshrined. Otherwise, as was later clear from the 1987 election result, the Labour Party would have stolen a second consecutive election and cemented the country into a dictatorship.
