They cannot afford to be arrogant and lose such candidates who have represented the party for decades. No wonder the party is been having a massive haemorrhage in terms of votes for these past years. They should have called him, if need be multiple times and made the matter clear to him, but striking off a candidate who has a family, friends, colleagues etc, the repercussions are bigger than one thinks.
